“A lot of the Indigenous People say that they have to live in two worlds, but the two worlds don’t have to be— one doesn’t have to be poverty. I believe that there’s a richness in Aboriginal knowledge.”

Alfred Joseph, Elder, ʔAkisq̓nuk

The ⱡkamnin̓tik Childrens Truth and Reconciliation Society promotes truth and reconciliation through cultural and educational programming, driven by Ktunaxa Nation citizens and Shuswap Indian Band members who attended the Kootenay Indian Residential School and their descendants. The society operates at the St. Eugene Mission Resort which is located north of Cranbrook, British Columbia, Canada. The St. Eugene Mission Resort is owned by yaq̓it ʔa·knuqⱡiʔit (Tobacco Plains), ʔaq̓am (St. Mary’s), ʔakisq̓nuk (Columbia Lake), yaqa·n nuʔkiy (Lower Kootenai), and Kyaknuqⱡiʔit (Shuswap Band). Because the resort was the former Kootenay Indian Residential School, today it is a place of language and cultural resurgence, and reclamation for the Ktunaxa Peoples.

Our Vision

To create a place where Truth and Reconciliation can work together, and a world of unity, respect and understanding of Ktunaxa and Shuswap Peoples cultures, history, languages, and futures.

Mission

To tell our truth, and preserve the truth for future generations. We hope to promote truth, healing, reconciliation, and education so that Ktunaxa and Shuswap Peoples histories, and cultures are better understood

Our Principles

We are guided by the Ktunaxa Covenants: Honour, Respect, Kindness, Tell the Truth, Unity, and Act with One Mind and One Heart
